l have a 1994 chevy silverado 1500. The temperature bar just started flashing and l cannot adjust the temperature. Sometimes it stops and l am able to adjust the temperature but today when l go to adjust the temp the display just keeps flashing. When it stops flashing it does not show any temp reading (the bar is totally absent) l just started a new job and do not have the money to take it to a shop.

Sounds like the assembly has gone faulty or the body control module=BCM is faulty , or bad connections to the cluster but if the temp digital display is half displaying numbers then it is faulty for sure.
I'd start with pulling that assembly out & checking the whole wiring harness & plug in connections , & try moving it some what then turning the heat system on etc.
Soldier wears out after ten yrs or so due to the O-Zone & that can cause a lot of intermittent problems in display systems too , you'd spot like cracks etc in the soldiering circuit if so.
