l jus bought a 2002 chevy venture from a private party and the radeo is on LOCKED. the dealer said they charge 50 dollars to give the code to unlock it. does anyone out there have the code or know how l can unlock the radeo/ audio system? thanks in advance

Nope, you gotta take to dealer.

Your dealer charges 50 bucks? Wow what a rip! l used to work for a GM dealer & we did not charge for that. If l remember correctly u have to pull a code from the radio & a dealer has to call an 800 number to get a code to put in the radio. For starters with the car ignition switch in the run (on) position (engine not running) & the radio OFF press the radio preset buttons 2 & 3 together for about 5 seconds. It should give u a 2 or 3 digit code. Then press the AM/FM button for the second set of codes. With these numbers in hand start calling some dealer PARTS departments as they usually will have the 800 number l referred to. Ask them if they would call for u as only a dealer may call the number. Then when they give u the number have the ignition switch ON (engine off) & the radio off hold the hour button until it sets the first 2 digits of the code then press & hold the minute button to set the second pair of numbers. Now turn ur radio on.

You need a tech2 scan tool & a subscription to GM''S programming
website called tis2web. Both a very expensive & the dealer is being
very reasonable to charge 50.00 to unlock ur radio. l would ask them to check for any programming updates any other module needs.
And include them for the same 50.00 dollars. GM is constantly releasing improved programming updates. Your venture has 6- 10 Modules. It would not take much more time do do them all. You would get a little more bang for ur buck. GLhs736 is A few years off on his procedure. And yes that is commonly done free for our customers that purchased there vehicle from our dealership.
