just mod your engine bay and throw in a v8 350 chevy motor, lots of power and light weight vehicle you cant go wrong, you'd have a little rocket truck

This is a big pickle, because u can not just throw in any old 350 or 262. It needs to pass inspection, which can be expensive with a working fuel injection.

It also depends on what exploded in ur motor. l can not really answer unless u know what blew. Assuming u trashed a rod or piston, then yes u need a new motor because it will also need to be bored & rebuilt.

There r some high mileage fuel injected engines, especially from old trucks, which can be had for cheap. You need to install it yourself (read books or have people help) to save big money. Call junkyards, engine specialists, machine shops, etc. Find out if they know where u could buy one in ur area.

Any way u dice it, it will at least cost u a grand. Since u do not have a starting point - add another grand. Multiply this number by two from Murphy is law, & that will give u a price range for the fix/swap. Believe me, l know all too well an 800$ engine is not an 800$ swap. If u do not have 4 grand, look at buying a used car or motorcycle.
