l have a winding noise on my 2006 trailblazer that has JUST ended in warranty!!!! So frustrating!! This noise tends to get louder and higher pitched when l accelerate and is just a constant winding while sitting there.....Someone had said it may be the air compressor but yet if the a/c is off the noise is still there....someone else said it may be the alternator....any thoughts and ideas as to what it could be???

really it could be any of the belt driven parts want to know which get a spray oil and spray one at a time will help you find which it is you could also stop at any parts store and ask them to listen to it or any shop could be belt alternator air pump air compressor power steering or a pulley and air still turns even when off best to have someone listen to it but you could spray just about anything at some of the moving parts and also find it too

to find the noise..get a two foot length of garden hose and with the car idling use it like a stethoscope to isolate. (one end or target component and one end in ear)

My first suggestion would be to replace the drive belt and tensioner.
