It has a 5.2 v8 in (possibly from a pick up truck) I am completely baffled and not sure where to start to look, any suggestions please?

the guys there know chev product/ engines (better than me, a ford guy!) will be able to help.

superchargers r available for carburated vehicles, the one that comes to mind is made by powerdyne, as will there r universal fit turbos that can be installed (costly though cause of fabrication) -
but u r a long way from there now.

-before u add a blower, u r going to have to build out the engine (bottom end, forged internals) top side race heads to handle stress/heat, along with headers, exhaust etc .
