The truck was used when l got it so no manual came with it. l have a Haynes but I am still not sure what to use. l was told Dexron Mercon lll but l wanna be sure since this person is not an expert or mechanic.

If it is low and you're adding to it make sure that the truck is running and in park when you check the fluid. If it is been run very low you should fill it and then drive back and forth a few times, then check and fill as needed. And yes any good quality Dextron/Mercon 3 is what it calls for.

dextron lll or higher can be used.The newest is Vl and can be used in all previous years.It is about $7 a quart though.Mercon is for Fords.
