my abs light comes on briefly after l put it in drive and it wont shift out of first gear, l also noticed my speedo wont work either, this started yesterday but it came and went so fast that it l didnt think much of it but today it is all the time, please help

change out speed sensor on the tail end of the transmission, or look for broken or rubbed through wires that hook up to speed sensor.

You have a bad abs sensor. Need a scan tool at a mechanic to check it out and see which one it is. It does not affect the transmission. That sounds like something inside your valvebody inside the trans. Your speedo cable needs to be replaced. Is it making a bunch of noise inside the dash?

forget about the abs, this has nothing to do with the trans, l would suggest looking for fluid level and if down a leak, the wiring harness should not be a problem if it is clipped up in the original place, if the wires have been distrurbed it is not difficult to get a manual from a shop to borrow,

It is the speed sensor on the tail-shaft of the transfer case. The trans wont shift because it thinks it is sitting still (0mph). There needs to be a speed reading for the trans to operate normally.

If the sensor is not the problem, then it is the wiring from the sensor. Either way, your not getting a speed reference.
