l have a 1984 camaro and l have a holley on it with a carburetor adapter and my hood doesnt fit anymore lol so instead of buying a $300+ hood l was going to get a street scoop and put a spacer or 2 on it, will more than 1 hurt my hp and torque? l have an adapter that is 1 inch and l wanted a 2 inch spacer, my engine is a 4 bolt main 350 .040 over with flat top J.E pistons and a weiand intake with headers and a single 3 inch exhaust.... l hope you get what im saying..

spacers are basically trial and error, its not gonna hurt to try it infact it might even give you a tiny bit more torque down low due to lengthening the runner, it may do nothing or you may lose some power.

It depens on ur combo.

Spacers r tuning tools & moves the power band up & down.

4 hole spacers tends to move power band down & help low rpm torque, but kils off some top end

open spacers tends to move power band up, giving more top end while killing off some low end torque.

The taller the spacer the more noticeable the effects are.

On my 1988 camaro, 355 l run a RPM intake & a 1'' open spacer. Track tested my combo with out spacer, with open & 4 hole in 1 & 2 inch sizes & got best times with the 1'' open on mine.

If ur just looking for hood clearance, u can look at a few options.

Like a drop base air cleaner. You can get drop bases that range from .5'' to 2'' drop. Meaning the top of ur air cleaner would sit 2'' lower than it is now.

Or u can cut ur hood & add a scoop (thats what l did at 1st). You can get scoops from speedwaymotors.com, up22.com (only buy scoops from them, there hoods & body panels r junk that does not fit at all), summit racing, jegs, etc

Now if u just want to put the street scoop on, rather than putting spacers under the carb, u could use air cleaner spacers that sits ontop of carb & lifts up the air cleaner or in ur case the street scoop.

more is not always better.

Sounds like your problem is that you have a stupid carb. GET A QUADRAJET!
