l think this truck has around 230 factory horses. Does anyone has any cost effective ideas that would increase the horsepower 50 - 70 more horses? My goal is to have a legitimate 300 horsepower truck. Thanks!

the truck is too old just buy another truck

You can start by getting it a full tune up. spark plug wires, spark plugs, injectors cleaned, a new fuel filter, fuel pump & strainer, and an oil change, go Royal Purple! :D

And then, a name brand intake arm. Full name brand exhaust system. And a ECU reprogram to squeeze out some more HP.

l am actually not to sure on how much of a performance boost that would get you, but l say close to 50 :)

Do not forget to pump premium!

K&N air injection system with filter, headers with at least 3 inch duel exhaust, H.E.I. ignition system, and a different computer chip would be a good start for just under $2,000.00.

Other than tuning up.(plugs, clean intake system, new filters.) the list is quite long, depending on how much money u r willing to spend & if u want economy/performance improvements or raw power improvements.


Aftermarket Intake & exhaust systems r probably the first things to look at. (K&N, cold induction, headers, high flow cats, high flow mufflers, x-pipe.) You could also beef up the ignition.

Performance chips r virtually non-existent for pre 96 vehicles, but on the bright side, ur motor is a lot closer to classic 350 of long ago. There r oodles of things u can do. Emissions equipment & regulations r a concern. Check to see what u can legally do where u live.

cold air intake would probably do 10 or 12 more hp but those 90s 5.7 just dont put out.

K&N filter to start with then ,aftermarket headers with flowmasters.
