l wanna run this chevy silverado 1997 5.7 liter 4by 4hard but some peopletell me it has to many miles on can l just run it like that will it give me problems or do l need to replace something l put a new time chain in it a couple months ago so thats good and for some reason it is more resposive when the motor is cold why is it bad to run it hard whenits cold? id really appreciate if you guys would answer

You could do a rebuild now. But, if it were me l would go ahead and run the crap out of it without spending any money. If you blow it then do the rebuild. That way you do not spend the money if you do not have to. If you're talking about long trips hauling or towing loads then yes l would probably do the rebuild now instead of later. Would not want to get stranded a long way from home.

Rebuilding would not be a bad idea if you are willing to put that work into it. Do you regularly change your oil? Check your spark plugs and all your fluids. With a motor that old running it too hard can just kill the motor if it can not take it.

It is not only your motor you have to worry about it is the whole drive train. That is too many miles on a truck to beat it.

just get a mechanic you trust to look it over and give you some recommendations but the 5.7L runs forever, as long as your major parts are under control and you make sure your belts are in good shape and you should be fine

179k is not bad. Who knows, u could put ur foot to the floor every chance u get & stick it against the rev limiter, accelerate as hard as it can every time & it probably would not hurt it. Or the next time u get above 4k it will throw a rod.

I've got 196k on my truck now, the entire drivetrain is original ( l even have the factory CV shafts). l do not hesitate one bit on hooking a 5k trailer & taking off into the mountains, & l recently spun the motor near 5k rpm while passing people on the highway.

It is slightly more responsive when cold because the fuel injection system is increasing the amount of fuel in the engine because it is cold so that it runs correctly (like a choke on an carb motor). It is bad to run hard when cold because of poor internal lubrication of moving parts.
