A while ago, my steering box started cracking from my frame, so the whole thing moved when l turned.l got it welded, but now it is starting to move again.It is not completely coming off, so if l put a wonderbar brace on it, will it prevent any further damage and be safe to drive?

ur best solution, is to have a shop make two steel plates 1/4'' or so, the rough size of the gear box, weld that to the frame on both sides of the frame rail
, & then bolt the gear box to that, the problem u r having is common to unit body cars, many components r just attached to relatively thin metal, & after time, the metal fatigues & will crack.

every time u turn, it pulls & pushes against the frame rail of the car (thin metal), & over time this stress creates cracks. by having a thick steel plate welded in & the gear box bolted to that, u will help spread load out more evenly.

that should reduce and/or eliminate the problem.

many many cars have the strut towers fail because of the same reason, the metal flexes
every time u hit a bump, & eventually it will crack & fail.

manufacturers dont design cars to last as long as people want them to..ever notice how things
always go wrong, a month after the waranty is up?

wonderbar and look in (jegs or summit) for sub frame connectors they cost bout a hundred or so

l would get a wonder bar but just go to your local scrap yard and find one. Do not pay high dollar for one on line or from a catalog. Just look for a t-top car or convertible and make sure you get a Z28. The bars did not come on the RS'. Hope l helped! Oh, and like the guy on here said, DO get some sub-frame conectors, they work wonders!
