im trying to throw some more horsepower in my stock camaro.
it has the 5.7 liter lt1 v8 but l wanna make faster. l have looked at many options, like exhuaust, throttle body, fuel injectors. those kinds of things. exhaust im going more towards than after doing that then replacing my throttle body. is there any other suggestions for some not-too-expensive mods l can make. l might put cold air intake too if l can find the room, also without replacing my whole exhaust how do l make my exhaust sound more,....ehhh raspy l guess. l have those square tips that come stock but l want more of a loud meaner sound to it.

well nothing is really cheap but you can always hollow out your cats since your car does not need to pass emissions any more, that will give straight flow so that should increase your horsepower, cold air intake is always good, my friend has a 94 formula firebird and he has catback exhaust and a k&n cold air intake. you can get decent performance packages for around 500 dollars. Go to a junkyard you might be able to find performance parts on a car that was rearended and totaled.

If you've got the money, I'd recommend getting a full cat-back exhaust system & also some headers as a way to increase power for & get better sound for under $1000 after installation of everything.

If you're looking more for just a better sound & do not have much cash, u can have an exhaust shop cut out the OEM muffler(s) & have louder aftermarket muffler(s) welded into the existing piping. A cat-back exhaust system is going to be better for power gains than just cutting & welding onto the existing exhaust system, but entire cat-back systems more expensive (as l am sure u already know).

Other mods in the future - if you're getting a ''cold-air-intake'' make sure it is drawing air from outside the engine compartment (like the OEM intake already does). Keep in mind that u wo not be gaining any real world HP by drawing in hot air from the engine compartment. Those dyno figures & HP gains that many intake manufacturers cite r made on a stationary dynometer (car on rollers) with the hood open & with a fan blowing on the motor (so that the intake is not pulling hot air from the engine bay like it would in real life.).

It is also a good idea to do the throttle body upgrade when doing the intake because the throttle body is a bigger restriction of airflow into the motor than the air filter & tubing before the throttle body.

l Would start with headers edelbrock TES is about the best bang for the buck. then if you are not worried about emissions cut cat. then have aftermarket muffler put in. Then get a K&N cold air intake it is more expensive than the off brands but worth it. throttle body after all of that 52mm bolts right on 58mm needs intake modified. as far as how it will sound get on youtube and you can find a LT1 camaro/firebird with any kind of muffler and hear it.
