Cars are designed to run at a high rpm for a long time, but exceeding its safe limits i.e. going above the red line (usually 7k rpm) could cause damage

l agree with Nat. As long as you do not exceed the redline, there wo not be too much of a problem.

It is actually good for the vehicle to spend time through the whole RPM range it has.
Scenario 1: You keep driving all the time under 2000RPM. The seals on ur engine get used to that & two years later u lend the car to a friend who takes it to the red line..it wont like that as much, all of a sudden ur car learns the hard way there is more to life than low RPM's.
Scenario 2: You drive through the range, the engine is conditioned & used to driving through the range of RPM is so long as u dont break the red line. You lend ur truck to that same friend.no problem.
Work the engine. if u treat it like a little old lady all the time, when someone finally breaks it out, chances r the key word will be ''break'' .
Lastly, if u have the V8, in 2006 they put the LS2 in ur truck which is basically a downtuned corvette engine. Dont baby it.giver hell.

It depends on how you do this. If you do it by running 160mph or so then it is definitely bad for the vehicle. If you, on the other hand, do it by running around in first gear for hours at a time it is only bad for the vehicle. How is it fun? l do not get it.

Your vehicle was designed to run at the operating RPM is u say u run ur engine at. That is what it was designed to do, but now let is take a trip down common sense lane.if u r using ur engine at max rpm is for extended periods & making it work at it is peak more often than not.you obviously creating a situation where it is putting out it is all .all the time & it is a matter of the law of averages..if something is working to the max that much, it is going to have a better chance at breaking than something that is used according to what it was designed for. Even a racing engine, in spite of the fact that l was engineered to rev at those speeds all the time, they break & they do it quite often & without an obvious reason.but the reason is they r being stressed to their max at every revolution & things will come apart with that kind of abuse.and an engine designed for street useage has more of a likelihood of self destructing than a race engine used that way. what u say u do with ur engine sounds fine..as long as the every once in awhile is not every launch from a stop.

just tell ur mechanic if hes good he/she will set u straight if he / she is really good they can build it to scare to crap out of u
then u will learn the lesson not on the street u might kill someone just running a veicle at hi rpms & not knowing what to expect is a bad deal high prms r for the track post a time slip now go faster every time till ur scared
if u screw-up the amblance is there on a back road might be hours before they find you
