l recently bought a 2006 chevy colorado z71 with the I-5 engine. My question is that is seems like it is running ok and it only has 45000 miles on it but it just seems like it takes the tranny forever to shift into overdrive?like when l get in it to go to work in the morning it takes about 2 miles of steady 65mph to get in overdrive, but once it goes in once it goes in just fine until l let it sit and get cold again. So is this just common of a chevy tranny, l have never owned a chevy before so l can not compare

Sounds typical for new vehicles, most will not shift into OD until the engine and transmission temperature is at a certain level, some also lock out OD if the engine or transmission gets too hot.

That is not normal. l would check with a dealer - they have a 100,000 mile transferrable warranty on the drive train so it should be under warranty. Let him check it out and service it so when it goes bad he will not mind replacing it free under warranty.
